Game plan strategry

As I ponder how to improve my teaching using the areas chosen for my game plan, I know that there are a few things that will be necessary for me to be successful.  One of the things that I need is time, I need time to search through the internet, talk with peers, possibly find and collaborate with other teachers online and time to determine the quality of the information that I manage to locate.

I don’t know that I need additional information, I just need to take advantage of the time I have in class to determine what it is I need for my classes.  The purpose of conducting this game plan is to find the information, if I knew the information I need I wouldn’t include it as something I don’t know.  I haven’t really had the time to take care of my game plan at the moment.  Between family, school, church, and being the head track coach in the final weeks of our season time for research is severely limited.  This will be a long term project that will pick up momentum as the summer starts and I reflect on what I want to change for next year.

  1. John,
I know it is a struggle to find time to research and explore resources with the busy lives we all have. Try 10-15 minutes a day just focusing on a few sites and you will be surprised what you will find. I have found many valuable resources and links during my break time or lunch. Sometimes I get to work early and my classroom is quiet and I get a lot accomplished in a short amount of time. Try sending off a quick email to your fellow colleagues and ask them to recommend a favorite site or technology tool.
Good luck with your track season!

  2. John I can feel your pain. I just worked my final track meet on Friday and can now devote more time to my studies. That being said, time is best taken in short increments. Try to work just a few minutes on a specific task and locate sites or resource people that can be helpful for just that single task. I often do this and end up finding several resources that had nothing to do with my original topic. Also try taking a step back and figure out if you are looking for resources for this year or next year. If it is next year then you have plenty of time.

  3. John,

Your problem is exactly the same as mine, finding the time! We have all this new technology at our school but when are we supposed to find the time to complete the research. I am hoping with summer coming up that I will be able to do some research online and develop my blog so that it is teacher friendly and that others will want to download some of my lessons.

One of the things that I have been doing lately when I am researching and don't have much time is when I find a site that I like, I save that webpage to my desktop then when I have more time I go back to my desktop and look over all the websites that I have found. This helps because before I would find a website then I would search more and forget the webpage that I just found. And eventually every web page was running together and I would not be able to find the one that I needed.
